Is cannabis currently legal in Alameda?
Almost. In the November 8, 2016 national election, a supermajority of Alameda voters (68.8%) voted in favor of Proposition 64, the marijuana legalization measure.
On November 1st, 2016 Alameda Councilmember Jim Oddie asked city staff research cannabis regulations for potential benefits to the city per revenues from fees and taxes.
In June 2017, with Mayor Trish Spencer’s referral and council’s 4-1 vote, Alameda started a more serious discussion about allowing the safe, open access of cannabis and cannabis businesses with a consideration for local prioritization for its residents who seek to establish one.
When will Alameda City Council pass an ordinance to allow cannabis in Alameda?
A special City Council workshop meeting was held September 5, 2017 for City Council to consider the mayor's referral.

So will the Alameda City Council support cannabis in Alameda?
City support for this issue, and a clear understanding of the details of cannabis in the City of Alameda, is important to us and critical to the health and well being of many patients and seniors here. Even more so, as Alameda's budding cannabis industry is regulated fairly and in favor of our citizens.
The next City Council Meeting is set for 10/21/17, and is another special workshop agenda.
Workshop on a Proposed Ordinance Amending the Alameda Municipal Code by Repealing Section 30-5.15 (Medical Dispensaries and Cultivation) in its Entirety; Adding a New Article XVI (Cannabis Businesses); Adding a New Section 30-10 (Cannabis); and Amending Sections 24-11 (Smoking Prohibitions in Places of Employment and Unenclosed Public Places) and 24-12 (Smoking Prohibitions in Housing).
